So, what is SEO in Geek Speak? Let’s see what Wikipedia says…

What is SEO

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of growing the quality and quantity of website traffic by increasing the visibility of a website or a web page to users of a web search engine.[1] SEO refers to the improvement of unpaid results (known as “natural” or “organic” results) and excludes direct traffic and the purchase of paid placement. Additionally, it may target different kinds of searches, including image searchvideo searchacademic search,[2] news search, and industry-specific vertical search engines. Promoting a site to increase the number of backlinks or inbound links is another SEO tactic.

That makes sense to me, how about you…. Not really?  Then, let me see if I can help.

SEO is a process that begins by optimizing your website and submitting your business to directories and search engines. It must also include implementing a robust social media marketing plan and utilizing analytics to enhance your company’s online presence. If done correctly, it can help gain customer trust, loyalty, and provide a reliable source for consumers searching online for what your business offers. The primary goal of practicing SEO is to get your company’s website ranked higher in the search engines than your competitors, which leads to more Internet traffic, and generates more calls to your business.

Why is SEO Important

A well-equipped search engine optimization strategy could elevate your company’s website, increase revenue, and expand your brand recognition. Doing this will help push your company towards the top of search results.

To simplify:

  • Everyone uses search engines.
  • If you are not on page 1, you will not be seen by potential customers.
  • If you are not seen, you get no calls. No new calls mean no new business.

How To Apply SEO To Your Business

SEO is not an automated process; it consists of rolling up your sleeves and getting a little dirty.  Doing SEO is not a glamorous or easy process, but it will give you satisfaction when you start to see results.

Listed below are the main ways to apply SEO for your business:

  • Make sure your Name, Address, & Phone Number is consistent on the Internet. The Internet gets confused easily, so get it right.
  • Submit your Business to the Search Engines, Directories, and Data Aggregators. This is a huge step to getting your business on the Internet. There are hundreds of these, so basically, you are never really done.
  • Post to Social Media platforms that your potential customers use. This needs to be done regularly or doesn’t bother to do it at all.  It just makes you look bad.
  • Update your website with great, fresh content. An easy way to achieve this is to include an FAQ page on your site.  Everyone loves FAQ’s, including the search engines.

Other Factors in SEO

  • Make sure your website is mobile-friendly and easy to use.
  • Update website content regularly. It needs to be relevant, fresh, and done a few times a week.
  • Customer Reviews, customer reviews, customer reviews… You can be ranked number 1, but that doesn’t mean your business does good work or delivers excellent service. Reviews are a more significant human factor when consumers are shopping. To read more, go to our blog post, “How To Get More 5 Star Reviews Online”
